Horrible movie - The Sound of Music Reviews

I never saw the ending but with what I saw it was the most boringest movie ever made! Don't see this unless you like HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL or any other musical.

The hills are alive......run!!!!! - The Sound of Music Reviews

Just kidding. The Sound of Music is a pretty good movie. I'd say it is either my 3rd or 4th favorite musical [definetly behind West Side Story and Chicago, and maybe Team America, if that's a musical]. The main roles characters are steady, but I honestly think the two best performances were that of Eloner Parker and Richard Hadyn as Baroness Elsa and Uncle Max. I mean why doesn't anybody acknowledge these two great performances? Anyways, good film.

the first time i saw this movie i couldnt stand it. the songs were so annoying and my sister would always put the movie on. but the song that really was annoying was when the sixteen year old girl sings about her turning seventeen i wanted to shoot her in the head. i couldnt stand her there singing. but there were really good actors in there especially Julie Andrews.

Omg! i love it!!!!!!!!!!! - The Sound of Music Reviews

OMG! OMG! OMG! IT IS THE BEST MUSICAL EVER! I LOVED IT THE FIRST TIME I EVER SAW IT!(WHICH WAS WHEN I WAS LIKE 4) I WAS IN IT, I PLAYED MARTA!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST TIMES OF MY LIFE!(AND GOSH I'VE HAD ALOT OF THOSE!) BUT SERIOUSLY IT IS ALOT BETTER THEN THOSE STUPID, GORY, INAPROPRIATE MOVIES THEY MAKE TODAY! AND IT'S GREAT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Stop singing ! - The Sound of Music Reviews

The music in this film is unbearable, the songs are awful, the singing worse. The plot is predictable and even tacky, the acting would have been better if they weren't acting and the visuals were awful. I cannot stand this film, it's pointless and almost as bad as Mary Poppins. Please stop making tacky films.

Tea, a drink with jam and bread.... - The Sound of Music Reviews

An outstanding, classic family perrenial, I grew up watching this film with MY family, and it has become a beloved title in my film library. So many people dismiss this beautiful movie as "sickening" and "sugar sweet", and maybe it is. However, from the moment Julie Andrews starts triwling around with reckless joyfilled abandon on that hilltop in the opening sequence, I, for one, am instantly hooked. Singing like an angel from heaven, Julie Andrews has never been more beautiful and charming and just plain perfect than she was in TSOM. And Christopher Plummer, as the crusty sea captain and father of 7 prankpulling children is the perfect match for Maria's (Andrews) nun. In fact, there is sooo much chemistry between them, I'm surprised the set didn't blow up! The music is all wonderful, as is the breathtaking cinematography, and, ultimatly, so is the message of this all time classic. Climb Every Mountain, indeed. One of the best films of all time!!!

Music to my ears! - The Sound of Music Reviews

I absolutely loved the sound of music! It was a spectacular film that has left generations to come with one of the of the most memorable movies! I love the songs and I hope that one day my kids will be able to experience this movie and enjoy it as much as I did!

A wonderful sound - The Sound of Music Reviews

This movie is filled with a wonderful sound of music that washes away the slightly damaged story, and completely saves the film, bringing it from the decent film it almost was the the fantastic, and beautiful, and powerul, and with great music, classic it is.

Good but... - The Sound of Music Reviews

Stretched far too long. That was the thing keeping this movie from getting an A. I really liked it but it was too long. Everytime i saw this movie on tv, i always have to stay after 12 in the morning to finish it. You couldn't watch this movie everyday because it's just too long and there are better things to do.

More than a musical - The Sound of Music Reviews

Terribly sweet and sugary but one of the more enjoyable guilty pleasures of the genre. The angst is worth the ticket and it's darn good looking.

The classic. - The Sound of Music Reviews

I grew up on The Sound of Music. This was the classic of classics. All other muscicals will be measured against it. I can sing along with every song. I still don't like Rolf. The opening with Maria twirling to "The Hills are Alive.".... to the wedding march... in every way this is the classic. A movie that affected my life. Follow every rainbow til you find your dream.

The hills are alive - The Sound of Music Reviews

Once this Julie Andrews sings the hills are alive with the sound of music you are instantly swept into the wonderful land of Austria and Maria Von Trapp's story. This music by Rodgers and Hammerstein is unforgetable and you want to listen to it over and over again. This acting is terrific by Julie Andrews and everybody else in the cast! I have loved this movie ever since I was a child and still love it today!

Sounds delightful - The Sound of Music Reviews

Besides the fact that this movie has some of the best music of all time, it's acting is stellar and of course it's a beloved classic ready to be charished and adored by all.

The hills are alive - The Sound of Music Reviews

There is nothing like this movie. Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer are super cool. The music and singing are just fantastic. The story is absolutely enthralling. For a relatively long movie, it is not boring in the least. And so beautifully shot in Austria. A feast for the eyes and soul that must be enjoyed once a year at a minimum.

All-time best movie!!!! - The Sound of Music Reviews

Ok, when I was growing up I thought the movie was lame, cheesy and stupid but I never even saw the movie, now I'm 20 years old and seeing it for the first time on Christmas, ABC, I fell and HARD. The movie wasn't lame, cheesy or stupid it was enchanting, beautiful, fun, and the list goes on. Julie Andrews sings beautifully in the movie and she's just amazing all through it, she did awesome in playing Maria Von Trapp, now Christopher Plummer played the heck out of Captain Von Trapp, he was just...wow! lol. Everyone played their parts extraordinary to be honest. I love singing and music and seeing the movie made me want to see it so I bought the CD (soundtrack) and that just wasn't enough. lol. I HAD to buy the movie on DVD and that's what I did. I just got it the day before New Year and have been watching non-stop so far. Well, I'm on a break for a few hours now...how you anyone hate this movie? It's amazing and my favorite moment is when Maria and Captain confessed their love to one another so romantic! The movie is awesome period.

Positively the best musical ever. - The Sound of Music Reviews

This movie ,I believe, was the top moneymaker at one time eclipsing "Gone with the Wind" in the 60's and even the 70's until "The Godfather" came along. Every scene is a classic and how many movies can one say about this.To prove this ,I will try to rely on my memory,if it serves me well.(I have the movie on video.) The casting is superb and I believe that Eleanor Parker gives one of the best performances in the movie and it is very touching although I still fringe at her character's thought of sending the children to bordering school. She acted very subtle and manage to portray the Baroness so that the moviegoer, ages 3 to 123, could experience tender emotions. Maria had to find her self-worth,while being 'flightly'(as the song HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA?" suggests. Her Mother Superior ,played by the late great Peggy Wood in a best-supporting actress nomination role, had told Maria that she has ot confront her destiny whatever it may bring nad not to run from it.She had to be strong .This is a key moment in the movie for if this moment did not happen,Could they have escaped from the Nazis and more ,becoming a family? The children actors are all marvelous in their own and movie composite right. Each was able to be a 'child, and teenagers' to bring out their characters so very well played. It was intersting to see these same actors in a reunion show years LATER and they have done very well. --- WELL IT LOOKS LIKE THAT I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS MOVIE, FOR MY REVIEW,DOES NOT GIVE THIS MOVIE JUSTICE,SO PLEASE WATCH THE MOVIE MANY TIMES AND YOU WILL SEE THIS MARVELOUS MOVIE AND EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR SELF FOR IT GROWS ON YOU LIKE A OLD FRIEND OVER THE YEARS THAT ONE COMES TO KNOW AND LOVE. This is the movie that features the singer who had dubbed others on other movies and she was seen here. That would be Marni Nixon and the real Maria is seen in a glimpse through an arch. What class! All of the songs are by the greatest movie musical teams that ever was ,(along withcBetty Comden and Adolph Green".All oof their other musicals are great but this one tops them all and is thier crown jewel. This is a film concerning events on a personal ,relaionships ,family ,community ,world, and Godly influence and I applaud this film for it(a standing ovation.)God has the most important part for God was looking out for these people as when the Good Sisters, had sinned by sabotaging the Nazi's car. This movie also had sings-alongs in movies theaters and thet would dress up as things ,in this movie, such as the items in O"NE OF My FAVORITE THINGS." The songs setpieces, again, are all classics. The opening number is now movie folklore with even the Pink Panther doing a take off of Maria on the mountaintop in "THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN." THIS IS MY WIFE AND MY DAUGHTER'S FAVORITE MOVIE AND ONE THAT THE WHOLE FAMILY CAN SEE . THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO THIS MOVIE AND i APOLOGIZE THAT I CAN NOT, EXPRESS ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING THAT THIS MOVIE OFFERS.THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES THAT EVER WAS AND ALTHOUGH,THEY HAVE TRIED TO IMITATE THIS MOVIE,(THE SONG OF NORWAY),NOBODY HAS CAME CLOSE TO WINNINNG THE PUBLIC AFFECTION AND HIGHLY DESERVED HONORS THIS MOVIE HAS). jUST TRY TO SING ALONG WITH THE PUPPETS WITHOUT A SMILE AND YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED FOR THIS IS A TRULY ENJOYABLE MOTION PICTURE EVENT.oNLY A HANDFUL OF MOVIES CAN CLAIM THIS AND LOOK HOW MANY MOVIES HAS BEEN PRODUCED IN THE ERA OF THE MOVIE. tHE MOVIE SOUNDTRACK IS ALSO A BEST SELLER THAT ONE MAY KEEP IN THEIR HEART. I will point to the the the scene in which Captain Von Trapp is breaking up with the the Baroness and before he does, she realizes it.She then, although subtly, her heart is breaking ,she took it upon her self for them to both ' save face ' , and keep their dignity intact. Can one think of another scene with these elements in mind in another movie and can you think of a better cast to have played these real life people?Keep asking this same questions as we review this movie!!! Julie Andrews was never better, along with the rest of the cast. The one exception to this may be her Oscar winning role in Mary Poppins but that reinforces the idea of her "being perfect in every way" also applies to this movie.

A great family musical! - The Sound of Music Reviews

The best musical ever - The Sound of Music Reviews

A classic........that remains a classic!!!!! - The Sound of Music Reviews

I have very little to add to the other reviews here. This movie is such a classic....from the opening sequences of the Austrian hills...to Julie Andrew's incredible vocal performances....right through to the climactic end with the family escaping over the hills (so what if that part is fiction!). No matter how many times one sees this film...you will be left feeling wonderful and you will experience something else as well......seeing a REAL film, the way they used to be made!!

The best musical to have ever been made - The Sound of Music Reviews

This has got to be the best musical ever made in the history of musicals. I've watched this movie over a thousand times. I've memorized all of the songs, and can almost recite the movie itself. julie Andrews was a great part of this movie. The kids did a great job of acting. You have got to fall inlove with the movie just because of the children who do such a great job of singing and acting.

Best musical ever written! - The Sound of Music Reviews

There is no way I could count how many times I have seen this. Nothing can ever compare to it!! And the scenery is breath-taking!! Used to sit in the balcony on Saturdays in 1967 and sing to the entire movie.

A classic - The Sound of Music Reviews

This film is timeless! Great acting, gorgeous scenery, wonderful script, enjoyable plot... I LOVE the music! Most of the movies nowadays offer unnecessary vulgar and gory moments. Too often, directors attempt to cover up their films' inner emptiness with useless sounds and visuals (thanks to modern technology). The Sound of Music, on the other hand, is done just right. Its entertaining elements come out very naturally.

Watch it again, and again, and again... - The Sound of Music Reviews

This is the FIRST musical i caught on film, and i haf 2 say, its my favourite one. the songs are extremely memorable, and the cast executed them with ultimate perfection and amusement. the cast all deserve plause: frm the cute to the bitch (oops), their efforts are credible. this was the film that created so many classic tunes that are still playin' nowadays, wad can i say?

Spectacular - The Sound of Music Reviews

One of the top ten movies of all time for its magnificent scenery, spectacular scope and the wonderful feeling one gets when viewing it. A story of an Austrian nun and a Viennese sea captain still entertains and enchants, even after all these years. Not to be missed!

The best musical ever! - The Sound of Music Reviews

This film is absolutely great! The acting is great, the music is great, the direction is great. This is truly one of the best movies of all time. A lot of critics back in 1965 when it was released and and even some from today can't stand its clean, wholesome, innocent charm, I say it's their loss. I say The Sound of Music is one of the greatest films of all time and I would gladly challenge anyone who thinks otherwise to a serious debate on the subject. This movie deserved all the Oscars it won.

Awesome - The Sound of Music Reviews

It was the best movie of all times!!!! And it is great for the whole family. Just relax with your kids and have great time just singing and laughing with Maria and the other kids... It is deffinitely a film worth buying and saving for when your kids get a little older...I loved it growing up and still do till this day.

Sound of music - The Sound of Music Reviews

Very beautiful movie. From the music to the scenics, we can't see such a clean movie in nowadays. Now most of the movices full of violence, sex etc. that contaminate people's heart.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens... - The Sound of Music Reviews

One of the greatest and most popular movies in American cinema, THE SOUND OF MUSIC is a heartwarming, touching, and true story of the Von Trapp Family Singers. Maria (Julie Andrews in an Oscar nominated performance) is an anchorite that doesn't really fit in with the other nuns at the convent. The Mother Superior realizes this, and arranges it so that Maria can be a governess for the seven children of a domineering, retired, and widowed naval officer (Christopher Plummer) who runs the house like a ship. Maria brings life and music back to the family, and wins the hearts of the children and eventually their father. With its gorgeous scenery, superb performances, unforgettable musical numbers ("Do-Re-Mi," "My Favorite Things," and "Edelweiss" among the most popular), and five Academy Awards (including Best Director, Best Score, and Best Picture), THE SOUND OF MUSIC is the perfect family film that never lets its lengthy running time get in the way. MPAA Rating: PG.

One of the greatest movies of all time - The Sound of Music Reviews

While the movie-making technology (lighting, camera techniques, etc) in the 60s was obviously not as advanced as what we have today, that gives The Sound Of Music it's own style, similar to, yet different from today's movies. The difference is, this movie is well made. The quality of film-making shown in this movie has very little competition in today's movie industry. The screenplay is very well written, allowing all of the main characters to be well developed, but also keeping the story moving. Since this is a musical, the characters spend a lot of time singing, but this is often successfully tied into the story line. Even as a fan of modern hard rock bands, I still enjoyed Rogers & Hammerstein's music, and have found myself humming the songs after watching the movie. If you count the Lord Of The Rings trilogy as one really long movie, The Sound Of Music makes my top 3 list of greatest movies ever made.

"how do you solve a problem like maria?" - The Sound of Music Reviews

The songs are quite catchy. The acting is up to par, especially for a musical. Best of all, the story, timing in at a mind-boggling three hours, goes by fast. My only quibble with the story is that when you watch this movie on DVD, there's an intermission pause that takes up a whole scene! That's kind of annoying, if you ask me. Other than that, there isn't really much of anything that I can complain about. Maria's leaving the convent is actually quite fun to watch; it's just the part before that when she goes up on the hill that doesn't really need to be there. Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews are both superb as Captain Von Trapp and Fraulein Maria. The kids are adorable (especially the precocious Brigietta.) Even Uncle Max, who's somewhat of a mooch in this movie, is quite likeable. My one quibble: Everybody except for Plummer mispronounced the word "Fraulein" throughout the movie. The direction is great, although I think making this movie three hours long is insanity. Plus, while I imagine that it was needed in the theaters, I don't think that adding an intermission into our DVD is really quite necessary. I also wish that there had been less of the Nazi subplot in the movie, mostly for the purposes of making this movie remain a musical instead of having it get all plotty. The visuals are excellent. The cinematography is so beautiful to watch. For a movie made in the 1960s, this is sure clear and crisp. "The Sound of Music" is perfect for the whole family. It's a bit sappy for some tastes, but even with the sugar-sweetness, there's still something in it to please everybody.

Truly one of the best classics out there! - The Sound of Music Reviews

I first came upon this movie when I was at my aunt's house at age 5. Not a fan of old movies and disgusted by musicals, I forcefully watched THE SOUND OF MUSIC. 3 hours later, I sat in front of the television screen mesmerized... I witnessed cinematic magic and brilliance! I loved it so much I borrowed it from my aunt and then pestered my parents into buying me the tape. I watched, rewinded, watched again, rewinded, watched again, etc. Now... 11 years later, I still haven't seen a movie that could live up to, and make me feel the joy I felt watching THE SOUND OF MUSIC! The movie tells the amazing story of Maria, a mischevious Austrian nun with a love for music and a habit of getting into trouble. Maria is forced out of the abbey to help raise and nanny the "SEVEN" children of Capitain Von Trapp, a strict, bitter, widower who runs his house as if it was one of his ships! Through music and her personal charm, Maria manages to win the hearts of the seven children AND their father. Withsongs used in a jaw-dropping and hypnotising sceneries, spectacular acting, exciting plot, and truly the best songs used in a movie, THE SOUND OF MUSIC can't fail to be irresistable to all! This is my all-time favourite movie... watch it for sure... I'm sure it will be one of yours!
